Ayurveda Talks: Professor Diana Lurie

After completing undergraduate work in Biopsychology at Wesleyan University, Diana Lurie received her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania in 1989. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Washington, she moved to The University of Montana where she is currently a Professor.  Dr. Lurie is also a certified Ayurvedic Practitioner, a founding Editor of the professional publication The Ayurveda Journal of Health, and a true leader in advancing Ayurvedic science in the west.

In this interview, Diana explains her spinal cord regeneration research and how it relates to the majja dhatu in Ayurveda. She talks about how inflammation plays a role in disease and its negative effects on the brain, and she reveals new research on the power of daily masage with sesame oil to inhibit the neural pathways for inflammation to spread.

For such a science-minded researcher, Professor Lurie’s core teaching is surprising: Pay attention to how you feel and educate yourself on how best to respond. I hope you enjoy this brilliant woman and her enlightening insights.
