This Point of Light Meditation comes from Swami Rama’s 61 Point Relaxation Exercise, which takes your awareness point by point around your body, both stimulating energy at these points and giving a gentle release.
It is wonderful for relaxation, stress release and healing as it brings your focus to the major energy points in the body. Some of these points are Chakras, and the other points are Marmas. Marmas are energy centers where three energy channels (Nadis) converge. This point of light exercise frees the circuitry so that prana can flow more freely.
As you listen you will be guided to place your awareness on one point after another every few seconds (or after one or two breaths). Try to follow the guidance and move along smoothly and effortlessly. If you move too slowly, your attention may drift, so it is better to move from point to point rather quickly, relaxing each point as you go.
You can practice lying down or sitting. Lying down is most relaxing, especially with a small pillow under your head, a rolled towel or bolster under your knees, and a light blanket covering your body. Sitting is excellent for clearing and strengthening your mind. Just be sure you are comfortable and can maintain a long, tall spine. Above all, eliminate distraction and allow your breathing to be long, full and smooth.
